MR51E Controller Setup

MR51E Controller Setup

1.0 Introduction

MR51E controller

The following steps explain how to add an MR51E controller to Borealis. The most important thing to be aware of is the fact that you must first add an EP4502 controller to Borealis before you can add the MR51E.

2.0 Add an EP4502 and Verify it is Online

  1. From the Borealis main menu, go to Hardware >> Controllers.
  2. All controller on the system will be listed. Verify you have an EP4502 added and showing as online.

    EP4502 Online

3.0 Configure the Network Protocol on the EP4502 Controller

The next step is to define a network device on the EP4502 controller.

  1. From the main menu, go to Hardware >> All.
  2. Expand the EP4502 controller.
  3. At the bottom of the list of controller components select Network Devices.
  4. Click the ADD NETWORK PROTOCOL button.

    Add_Network_Device_Button

  5. Confirm to add the new network protocol.
  6. The new protocol will be added to the hardware tree and at the same time the EP4502 will be reset.
  7. Expand network devices on the hardware tree.
  8. You will see two Undefined entries. Select the second entry on the hardware tree named 'Undefined'.

    Select Undefined

  9. On the right side of the screen the properties for the controller port will be displayed.
  10. Click on the EDIT button.
  11. Enter a new description - such as 'MR51E Devices'.
  12. Set the protocol as Mercury Security.
  13. Save the controller port settings.

    Save controller port settings

  14. You will now see there is an indicator against the EP4502 prompting you to memory reset the controller - so go ahead with the controller reset.

4.0 Configure the MR51E for DHCP

The next step is to configure the MR51E to obtain a DHCP address. The controller should be added to the same DHCP network that the EP4502 and the hub is added. This will ensure that the DHCP address obtained by the MR51E is on the same range as these other two devices.

  1. Power-down the MR51E.
  2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the MR51E Ethernet port.
  3. On the S1 dip switch set switch 1 in the ON position.
  4. Ensure switches 2,3 and 4 are in the Off position.

    S1 Switch_Public_DHCP

  5. Power-up the controller.
  6. Within 2 minutes the controller will have received an IP address from the DHCP network.

5.0 Add the MR51E Controller

  1. Go to Hardware >> All and again select the newly defined network protocol.
  2. On the right-side of the screen, click the ADD PANEL button.

    Add Panel Button

  3. From the panel select list, select MR51E.
  4. Click SAVE.

    Select_MR51E

  5. Expand Network Devices until you see the new device that is added.

  6. The controller properties will be on the right but the controller status will be shown as offline.
  7. Click the EDIT button.
  8. In the controller properties, set the IP Mode to Public DHCP.
  9. Enter the controller's MAC address - this is printed on the side of the controller's Ethernet port.
