Block Enrollment

Block Enrollment

1.0 Introduction

The Block Enroll feature allows you to enroll a sequentially numbered block of credentials via the Credentials screen. It requires you to know the credential imprint numbers and the programmed facility code (where applicable). Not all formats (for example, Keri NXT, require a facility code).

The Block Enroll function uses an intuitive wizard that walks you through the steps to enroll a block of the same credential type and has a similar look and feel of enrolling a single credential. Only one format can be enrolled per block enrollment iteration. For example, if enrolling both
26-bit and 34-bit Wiegand credentials, then two iterations of the process will be necessary.

Notes:

  • Block Enroll is supported with Keri NXT, Keri MS, 26-bit Wiegand (H10301) and most other Wiegand formats in the Borealis Credential Formats library.
  • If not enrolling using one of the default/most commonly used formats (NXT, MS, 26-bit Wiegand), you must first add/configure the format under Credential Formats.  Otherwise, in the enrollment Card Format pull-down menu, the format will not be listed.
  • Block Enroll is used when you wish to enroll a range of credentials that are sequentially numbered. MIFARE CSN credentials would typically not be enrolled using Block Enroll as they are usually
purchased as random Card Serial Numbers (CSNs) and not numbered sequentially.
  • Block Enroll is not supported with formats that ignore parity bits (such as N10002 and H10306 formats). These formats must be presentation enrolled.
  • The maximum number of credentials that can be block enrolled at once is 100.
  • Block Enrolled cardholders will be named Unassigned1, Unassigned2, etc and the credentials will be inactive. Before the block enrolled credentials can be activated the cardholder's real name will need to be assigned to the cardholder record.

The following steps explain how to enroll a block of ten 26-bit Wiegand credentials.

2.0 Block Enroll the Credentials

  1. From the Borealis main menu click on Credentials.
  2. Click the Enroll drop-down menu located in the upper-right of the screen.
  3. Select Block Enroll.

  4. Set the count for the quantity of credentials that you wish to enroll.
  5. The first name and last name will default to 'Unassigned' following by the enrolled imprint number. The real cardholder names can be applied after the enrollment.
  6. Select Never Expire and the credentials will not use an activation date and expiration date.
  7. Leave Never Expire unchecked if you wish to set the credentials as temporary and you will then have to define the activation and expiration date.

Note: If you set an activation and expiration date all block enrolled credentials for this
iteration will be assigned the same activation and expiration dates.

  8. Optionally you can select Use Extended Timing option to apply an extended (ADA/DDA) unlock time for the credentials.

Note: The Extended Timing option is not supported on PXL controllers.

  9. Optionally, you can also select to use different access rights per credential. When
cardholders have multiple credentials this option allows you to assign the individual
    credentials with different access rights.

  10. Click NEXT.
  11. Select the correct format from the Card Format drop-down list.

Note: If you are not enrolling a commonly used format, such as Keri NXT, Keri MS or Wiegand 26-bit and the format does not display in the drop-down list, you will need to click on Credential Formats from the main menu and add/configure the required format. Please contact Keri Systems tech support if your required format is not available in the credential formats library.

  12. Enter the starting imprint (the number printed on the first of the block of credentials).
  13. Tab down to the Ending Imprint field and the end imprint number will be infilled
    automatically.
  14. Enter the facility code (if applicable). Typically the facility code will be printed on the
outside of the box that the credentials were supplied in.
  15. The status of the credentials will be Not Active and is non-editable. The status can be set to
active once the cardholder's real name is applied to the cardholder record. This is designed to prevent an unnamed cardholder from being able to gain access on the system.
  16. Click NEXT.

  17. Select an access right to assign to the cardholders, or leave it set to none if access rights haven't been configured yet, or if the block of credentials will be assigned different access rights.

Note: You will not be able to assign access rights to credentials if hardware has not been added to the system.

  18. Click Save.

  19. Click here for information about assigning access individually or mass-assigning access rights.
  20. The new credentials will be added to the system and will be displayed on the Credentials screen.

3.0 Assign the Cardholder Name

Typically the credentials will be issued to cardholders one-at-a-time. This is also the
recommended procedure to ensure that access is only granted by a known cardholder.

Before you can activate a credential you will need to enter the cardholder's real name.

  1. From the main menu click on Cardholders.
  2. Locate the credential that will be issued to the cardholder.

Note: If you cannot see the credential in the list you can search for the credential using the imprint filter option. The Credential filter icon is highlighted in the following image.

  3. Use the Actions drop-down list on the right of the cardholder record, select Edit.

  4. Enter the cardholder's real first name and last name.

  5. Save the cardholder record.

4.0 Activate the Credential

  1. From the main menu, click Credentials.
  2. Use the Action menu for the credential and select Edit.

  3. Set the status to Active.
  4. Save the credential.

  5. The physical credential can now be handed out to the cardholder.

5.0 Block Delete

Borealis also has a block delete function that allows you to bulk remove 'Unassigned' credentials. For example, if a block enrolled batch of credentials was enrolled incorrectly.

Note:

  • Block Delete will only delete unassigned credentials. If the credential is associated with a cardholder record that has the real name of the cardholder (and not 'Unassigned#') then that credential cannot be included in the block delete function. The target imprint range will have to be adjusted to not include assigned credentials.
  • The target imprint range will have to be adjusted to not include assigned credentials.

  • To delete only a specific block of unassigned credentials you will need to input the specific number range (the starting and ending imprint numbers).

To delete only a specific block of unassigned credentials you will need to input the specific number range (the starting and ending imprint numbers).

The following steps explain how to block delete all unassigned credentials.

  1. From the main menu, click on Credentials.
  2. From the ENROLL menu on the right select Block Delete.
  3. The first name and last name fields will contain 'Unassigned#' and these fields are non-editable.
  4. Enter 0 as the starting imprint.
  5. Enter 8888888888888888888 (hold down 8 until accepts no more).
  6. Click the DELETE button.
  7. You will see a message notifying you how many credentials will be deleted.

  8. The deleted credentials will be immediately removed from the system.
